Hi there!
When you have bipolar, you may feel like your mental illness is always in control.
You never know when a mood swing is going to hit, or how severe it will be. It’s like you’re stuck in a dark dungeon with no hope of escape. I know the depths of despair because I’ve been there, but I’m here to tell you there is hope. Regardless of your age, you can reinvent yourself and achieve almost anything.
My dream growing up was to be a writer. I imagined myself living in the mountains of Colorado, writing away in a small cabin with large windows, watching the snowflakes fall. I knew the novels would just pour out of me.
Over time, I let my negative thoughts and imposter syndrome scare me away from chasing my dream. Decades went by and I only wrote for myself and mostly in my journal. I had a few false starts with writing groups, but I always pulled away before anyone got to know me.
My dream felt hopeless.

Starting Again
I was in my early 40s when I decided to stop dreaming and get to work.
With a path in mind, I took the leap and began to pursue my dream of being a writer. I wanted my words to matter, so I thought about all the things I could write about. I had a history of working in insurance and in bookkeeping, but neither topic inspired me to write. So I decided to just start writing and see where my words took me.
