Hi there!
One of the best things I did in therapy was strip away all the outer parts of me so I could discover what was at my core.
Like peeling an onion, or a cake if you prefer Donkey’s analogy, I tore away layer after layer until I could clearly see what truly mattered to me.
As we grow up and start our lives as adults, others add layers to us. People force their expectations on us or tell us what they think we should be.
Mental illnesses like bipolar make you doubt your own mind. When someone else tells you what you should be, part of you wants to make them happy. Surely, they must know better than a mind you can’t trust. Right?
Except, not all the labels and layers heaped on you are beneficial. Often, they also don’t reflect who you really are inside.
Instead of revealing your core, they add walls around you.
