Hi there!
When I was in my early twenties, I had a thriving credit research business. I was on top of the world until the emerging internet brought everything to a screeching halt.Â
In the matter of a few days, I went from having four employees and a bunch of fun money to applying for work with a temp agency not sure how I would buy groceries until my first paycheck.
Sometimes life sneaks up behind you and smacks you across the back of the head with the force of an aluminum baseball bat. With no warning, everything changes, and it's up to you to adapt.
“May the flowers remind us why the rain was necessary.“

It felt like the end
Young and reckless, I had nothing set aside for a rainy day. Not one penny. Things felt hopeless.
Then, in the middle of a depressive episode, I saw the lilies in the garden outside my window. It was raining hard, and the delicate petals were being battered mercilessly by the wind and rain.
But the lilies still stood tall, proud, and beautiful. They were a reminder that no matter how bad things get, there is always something to be positive about.
I determined I was a flower. No matter what, I would rise and conquer my latest challenge. It was a tough few weeks, but I conquered them. My life was going to be what I decided, not the things that happened to me.
You can weather the storm
The rain is necessary for the flowers to grow and thrive. Without it, they would all wither and die.
The same is true for us humans. The tough times strengthen us and make us more resilient. They remind us we can overcome anything life throws our way.
The next time you’re feeling down, when the storms move in, remember the flowers. Remember, the rain is necessary for you to grow and thrive. And most importantly, remind yourself that you can overcome anything life throws your way.Â
Stand tall like a lily and you will see the sun again.
Journal Prompt: Write about a time when the storms of life hammered you, but you made it through. What gave you the strength to fight on? What did the experience teach you?
Creative Writing Prompt: Write a story about a frog living in a flower garden. What happens when a rainstorm blows in?
Until next time, keep fighting.
