Adjusting to What You Can’t Change: My Eyeglasses Story
Change what you must, accept what you can't.
Hi there!
Recently, I got my first pair of bifocals.
Like most things in my life, it’s been a bit of an adventure.
Our first try was progressive lenses. My doctor encouraged me to start wearing the glasses the next morning after I picked them up rather than switch in the middle of the day. The next day, I worked in the yard, so I put off my start to the next day.
Two days after I received my new glasses, I came down with COVID.
The constant swirl and distorted peripheral vision made me feel like I’d been on a ship in rough waters for two weeks. The nausea and headaches were so bad that I had to switch back to my old glasses until I recovered from my illness.
Optimistically, I slid my glasses onto my face one morning when I felt halfway normal again.
Within 30 minutes, my head was pounding. I knew if I tried to keep the specs on, I would have to set up camp next to the commode.
